Issues - Jen Duff For Mesa
FROM MESA, FOR MESA: Dating back to WWII, Jen’s family roots show a lineage of service with the RAF (Royal Air Force) stationed at Falcon Field. Jen humbly wishes to continue in the tradition of service, while honoring Mesa's history and values..
PUBLIC SAFETY: Jen will work to increase Police and Fire services to ensure our safety, security and welfare.
EDUCATION: Only 36% of Mesa’s children have basic skills to enter school, compared to 48% nationally. Only 49% of our high school graduates go on to higher education or tech schools. Jen highly values educational opportunities for our children thereby empowering the informed citizens who will better our city.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Jen believes city economic development should provide a return on our investment. Jen’s 28 years as an entrepreneur provides her with time-tested skills to analyze ventures and attract opportunities.
RESPONSIBLE CITY BUDGET: Jen will work to increase efficiency and stop auto-pilot spending policies. It is essential that the city budget be smart, strategic and transparent. We need to see both the price and value of our future.
STRONG NEIGHBORHOODS: Safe, clean, revitalized neighborhoods for all families, professionals, and retirees. Jen will work to connect neighborhoods to city policy by insisting on authentic participation and public engagement. The voice and values of our residents serve as our strength.
ARTS: The arts are a powerful element of our downtown Mesa transformation. Jen is inspired by organizations, programs, and projects that provide economic vitality, cultural enrichment, and fosters creative thinkers. Mesa is poised for a prosperous and vibrant 21st century.
HOMELESSNESS: Jen is committed to resolving the problems of homelessness by connecting them to government and private sector services. The value of our community should not be diminished by overlooking our vulnerable populations.

About - Candidate Jen Duff
My passion and love for Mesa has led me to run for City Council District 4. My entrepreneurial spirit and leadership skills give me the foundation to continue to move Mesa forward.
I’m native to Mesa and spent my childhood on south Hobson, graduating from Mesa High and Mesa Community College. I spent 30 years of my adult life in NE Mesa. In 2009, I craved a change and decided to move to downtown Mesa. My friends and family were concerned - “there’s nothing there, it’s too quiet, it’s the old Mesa, it’s unsafe.” Initially, I rented a place at Drew Lofts and began falling in love with Mesa all over again. It brought back memories of my childhood, I was intrigued with the historic homes and downtown charm. Soon, I was pacing the neighborhoods and found a small 1915 bungalow on W 2nd St. Mesa was no longer just a place to live, it was my home and became my heart.
From that time in 2009, I got involved in my neighborhood and its issues. This led me to co-create “I Believe in Mesa’s Downtown” which eventually became R.A.I.L. (Retail, Arts, Innovation, Livability) in 2013. I also became heavily involved in committees and boards in and around downtown Mesa.
I'm engaged to a wonderful man and photographer, Ivan Martinez. My family roots stem from the Royal Air Force based at Falcon Field during WWII.
EXPERIENCE:
My first career was in fashion at Goldwater’s department store. Although I loved fashion (and still do!), I found I didn’t love the business. I returned to MCC in the mid 80’s briefly while competing in bass fishing tournaments. In 1989 I lived in Japan under the invitation of JBTA (Japan’s Bass Tournament Association) to compete and promote the sport. At the end of my tour, I set-up an import/export business, Jef International, Inc. and Lobina Lures, specializing in sport fishing equipment. The business still thrives today and I am blessed with an excellent staff that allows me to spend time in the community.
My dedication to Mesa includes:
R.A.I.L. Founding Board Member
